Critical Care Internship

Ready for the fast-paced world of critical care nursing? Start your career here.

If you’re a nurse who’s been thinking of working in an emergency department, cardiac care unit or burn center, you’ll enjoy building your clinical competency on the job with our critical care internship. With no tuition costs, our internships give you the opportunity to develop and apply your clinical knowledge and skills while receiving a full salary and benefits.

Designed to prepare you for employment in one of our specialty critical care units, this program combines educational programs and supervised clinical experience with preceptors (teacher) over a 23-week period. Upon graduation, you can choose from existing, full-time internship opportunities in one of the four groupings listed below.

In return of your acceptance into the internship program, we ask for your signed commitment to remain an employee with us for one year following the completion of your internship. We hope you’ll decide to stay for many more.

  • Center for Critical Care includes Medical/Surgical ICUs, Trauma/Neuro ICU, Burn Center, Special Care Unit and Specialty Float Pool
  • Medical/Surgical Cardiac Units include Acute Coronary Unit, Open Heart Unit at two sites, Transitional Open Heart Unit, Intensive Care Unit at Muhlenberg and two Specialty Float Pools
  • Emergency Departments which include Emergency Department at Cedar Crest and I-78, Muhlenberg, 17th and Chew Sts. and the Specialty Float Pool
  • Undeclared enables you to experience a variety of medical and surgical intensive care units and decide on specialization at the end of your internship

Your internship consists of three phases:

Phase I: Medical/Surgical Orientation (8 weeks)
Phase II: Critical Care Education (11 weeks)
Phase III: Unit Based Shift Orientation (4 weeks)

Requirements for participating in one of our internship opportunities include:
  • New or recent graduate of accredited nursing program
